Libby's just a warm, funky place
Customers come to the cozy restaurant in all shapes and sizes-some just for the cookies.
You wouldn't find Libby's Kitchen unless you were a Farmers Market regular during the summer or have business in the Trout Lake Community Centre. It's dovetailed into a very residential block of three-story walk-ups.
When I visited, customers included a Buddist monk in a saffron robe from a temple nearby and neighbourhood kids stopping by with moms for some cookies.
How else can I describe this place, except to say it is warm and cozy and funky. There's an antique wood stove in one corner, serving as coffee and tea station and mismatched furniture acquired, probably, from friends and family basements.
Libby's opens for breakfast with egg dishes, muffins and breakfast burrito. For lunch, it has a roster of a couple dozen soups and features two every day. Soups include carrot coconut, curry lentil and yellow thai chickpea. There's always salads (Caesar, pasta and others) as well as panini. (Roasted chicken, brie and pesto or spicy capicolli.) The main dishes are about $7 and if you want a beer or wine, Libby's got a license.
And there's the buzz of good music, from blues and reggae to jazz and lounge, even classical.

Vancouver's "'Libby's Kitchen" has expanded and opened a new location in downtown Port Coquitlam.
Tucked away between Reitman's and Canadian Tire in Shaughnessy Station, a unique new little coffeeshop opened it's doors about a month ago. Libby's Cafe has already become a favorite with the locals. They come for the company and the relaxing atmosphere and although one of the main draws is of course, the aromatic coffee, this quaint little spot serves up much more than just a great cup of Canterbury Java !
Everything here is healthy and freshly made each day, from the Breakfasts (which are served all day long) to the homemade soups and baked goods, to the salads (with in house made dressings) and exotic curries.
The breakfasts are sure to start your day right, and a favorite is "Libby's!", a poached egg with swiss and cheddar cheeses and tomato, melted on an english muffin. This comes with a side of yogurt. Simple but yummy!
Each day features two wholesome new soups, made from scratch and guaranteed to warm you up! These are served with a side of homemade focaccia bread.
Libby's is also famous for their Panini's. (these are also available in a soup and sandwich combo) They highly recommend the Capicolli (with provolone, caramelized red onions, basil, with roasted red pepper mayo banana peppers and lettuce) Spicy!
Another hit is the Roasted Chicken Panini, with Brie, Pesto Mayo Lettuce and tomato. Comfort food at it's best.
The chef also makes a mean curry! Red Thai Curry with Roasted Chicken, eggplant and Red Pepper with a side of rice. Warms my soul just thinking of it!
There's also a Green Vegetarian Curry for non-carniverous folk. They also offer a Veggie Curry Wrap that sounds phenomenal!
Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices are also a hit here, as are their specialty coffees, Smoothies and Frappes. New to Libby's... Italian sodas and lemonade.
They also offer their fare for catered events. To check out their catering menu, go to www.libbyskitchen.com or call 604-612-3321.
Finally a local restaurant where you can get a good cup of coffee, a nice variety of healthy menu options and all m a relaxing atmosphere, where you can be comfortable meeting friends and family. They even have FREE WIFI.
Pop in for a bite soon. You'll become a regular too!
